Lakeside Diagnostic Hearing and Tinnitus Centre provides leading client-focused hearing healthcare.

It is a team based audiology centre which provides comprehensive audiologic care and hearing rehabilitation for all ages. Audiologic care is the protection, preservation, evaluation and treatment of the hearing and balance functions and is provided by audiologists, either individually or as part of a healthcare team, who use their professional skills to improve the quality of life for each patient.

The centre works with your physician to share information, findings and treatment planning and is locally owned and operated by Nichole Sorensen, B.Sc., M.A., RAUD, registered Audiologist who has provided audiology care in the Okanagan since 1999.

Lakeside Hearing is part of the WorkSafeBC Provider Network and also provides services through Veteran’s Affairs Canada, NIHB, Social Services, and out of province WCB.

MEET OUR FOUNDER & AUDIOLOGIST

DR. NICHOLE SORENSEN
Au.D., RAUD, RHIP, Doctor of Audiology

Nichole graduated with her Masters of Arts in Audiology from Western Washington University in 1997. She has been offering full diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services in the Okanagan for 15 years. Nichole is the only Audiologist in the BC Interior providing auditory processing diagnostics and therapy. Nichole is certified with the BC College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of BC and the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. The Lakeside Hearing is an independently owned Audiology clinic operated by Nichole Sorensen, allowing her to provide the best quality care possible.

with the diagnostic technology to pinpoint the problem and the proven protocols to treat it.

AUDIOLOGY

CLAIRE BELDI, B.Sc., M.Sc, RAUD
Clinical Audiologist

Claire grew up in Salmon Arm, BC and received her undergraduate degree in Speech Sciences and a Master’s degree in Audiology from the University of British Columbia. Claire is passionate about Audiology and has developed individualized aural rehabilitation and lip reading classes to supplement hearing aid use. She additionally provides assessment and remediation for individuals with auditory processing difficulty. Claire wants to educate the Okanagan on the importance of hearing health and appropriate management for individualized audiological needs such as hearing loss, tinnitus, sound sensitivity and/or challenges with auditory processing.

JEFF NAKA, B.Sc., M.Sc., RAUD
Clinical Audiologist

Jeff grew up in West Kelowna and received his undergraduate degree in Speech Sciences and his Master’s degree in Audiology from the University of British Columbia. Jeff has over 24 years experience working and volunteering in the field of Audiology primarily between Kelowna and Vernon. Jeff has a special interest in amplification, tinnitus, and vestibular assessment and rehabilitation. Jeff enjoys playing tennis, golf and fly fishing. He is a past member of the Vernon Rotary Club, a volunteer Audiologist at BC Special Olympics and resides in Vernon, BC.

TINNITUS

GLYNNIS TIDBALL, M.Sc. (SLP, RAUD)
Registered Audiologist

Glynnis is a registered clinical audiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver and clinical instructor at the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences in the UBC Faculty of Medicine. Her primary professional focus for the last 17 years has been management of tinnitus and hyperacusis. Glynnis is also a sponsored speaker on tinnitus and hyperacusis to consumers, hearing healthcare providers, and physicians across Canada. Glynnis hosts our Coping with Tinnitus and Sound Sensitivity Group Education and Support Sessions at Lakeside Hearing.

BALANCE

ERICA ZAIA, M.Sc, RAUD, 
Registered Audiologist, Certified in Vestibular Assessment and Management, Certified in Cochlear Implant Management

Erica has performed vestibular testing and rehabilitation for 25 years. She has worked in a variety of settings, including St. Paul’s Hospital (Vancouver), the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital (London, England), and public and private practices in Brazil. Erica is on the clinical faculty at the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences at UBC. Erica is also a director of the Canadian Academy of Audiology (CAA) and of the BC Balance and Dizziness Disorders Society. Erica works collaboratively with Nichole and Clarice and has a special interest in the assessment and treatment of complex, multicanal, recalcitrant forms of BPPV.

CLARICE BOWER, B. Sc. P.T.,
Registered Physiotherapist, Certified Vestibular Therapist

Clarice has over 25 years of experience, including successful therapy treatment in Vestibular Rehabilitation since 2006. Clarice is also an Orthopedic Therapist and the Team Vestibular/ Concussion Leader for Lifemark Health Kelowna (Harvey Avenue location). Clarice works collaboratively with Erica and Nichole to provide individualized vestibular rehabilitation assessment and treatment of multi-factorial balance disorders at the Lifemark Health Harvey Avenue location.

ADMINISTRATION

LEA DALEY, RHIP
Operations Manager

Lea was born and raised in St. Albert, AB. She took both the Management Studies program as well as the Hearing Instrument Practitioner program at MacEwan University. Lea graduated with distinction from MacEwan University as a Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner in 2005. She then received her Board Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences through NBC-HIS (National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences). She worked in Edmonton for many years before moving to the Okanagan with her family in 2013, where she continues to work as a Practitioner. Lea is certified with the BC College of Speech and Hearing Professionals. Her newest role, as Lakeside Hearing’s Operations Manager, allows her to ensure all aspects of the clinic run smoothly.

EMILY HELFRICH
Administrative Office Manager

Emily was born and raised in Calgary and moved to Kelowna in 2011. Emily has a passion for Audiology and helping others. Emily works out of the Kelowna Clinic where she looks forward to assisting clients from Monday to Friday each week. Emily also books all appointments for the specialized clinic

SHARON TUOMI
Administrative Office Manager

Sharon was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She moved to Kelowna with her family when she was in grade five, graduated from Kelowna Senior Secondary School in 2006. Since that time she has been involved in the field of health and wellness. Sharon’s holistic approach lead her to focus on her passion to integrate both body and mind into healing and wellbeing. She completed Yoga Teacher Training in 2016 and became a Certified Yoga Instructor. Sharon has expressed her enthusiasm in continuing to broaden her knowledge of the human body and is looking forward to her new career path within Lakeside Hearing. She is very personable and will ensure your individual needs are taken care of.

BROOK ROTH
Administrative Office Assistant

Brooke was born in Kelowna and graduated from Kelowna Secondary School. She then pursued her Certificate Degree in the Medical Office Assistant program at Okanagan College. She has been working in the medical field for 4 years and continues to provide exceptional care for patients. In her spare time, you can find her drag racing at our local racetrack or soaking up the lovely Okanagan sun! Brooke is eager to continue her career with Lakeside Hearing and is excited for what the future brings.

PATIENT SUPPORT

BARBARA BISHOP
BEd, MEd Psych, MA Psych, Certified Counsellor

Barbara is a Certified Counsellor who has been working to help individuals develop the tools they need to live the life they wish to. She received her Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta. She hasworked in private practice as a counselor and educational consultant. Barbara is also known for her work with Gifted Education and has presented at national conferences on topics such as creativity and social and emotional well-being. Barbara provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help individuals cope with tinnitus. She provides both group and individual counselling to help reduce the negative effects of tinnitus on an individual’s well-being.
